Project Management Skills for Everyday Tasks: Adopting the Mindset from Planning to Execution

Why join the workshop?

This workshop is designed to develop the ‘project manager’ mindset and competencies by enabling participants to link and apply essential project management (PM) principles and tools to their everyday workload, specifically through collaborative workload planning, work prioritization, meeting management, and low-impact activity reduction.

Objective:

This highly interactive workshop aims to enable participants to:

  • Transition to a ‘project manager’ mindset and apply project management principles and tools to everyday workload management.

  • Handle multiple projects more effectively through better project prioritization, monitoring and constraint identification.

  • Manage stakeholder expectations and requirements by using more effective project scoping tools and techniques.

  • Prepare project plans more thoroughly

  • Utilize project resources in a more organized and systematic way.

  • Execute better by anticipating risks and removing barriers to successful project implementation.

  • Lead project teams more effectively as a result of improved project communication, collaborative planning, meeting management, time management and delegation.

This highly interactive workshop will cover the following topics:

  • The ‘Everyday Project Manager’ mindset and project management processes

  • Essential project manager skills & competencies

  • Initiating phase

    • The 5 types of project stakeholders and the information they provide

    • Stakeholder interview questions to define the project scope

    • The triangle of constraints and managing stakeholders expectations

    • Essential PM tools: Work scope agreement & project charter

  • Planning phase

    • The importance of risk management before project piece mapping

    • How to anticipate, identify, assess and manage project risks

    • Project piece mapping

    • Breaking projects into actionable pieces

    • Essential PM tools: Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) & Gantt charts

    • Project scheduling and applying the critical path method

    • Allocating project budgets

  • Execution phase

    • Leading the kick-off meeting and assigning roles

    • Essentials for project teams: Time protection, delegation & monitoring

    • Project change management: How to document & manage change

  • Closing phase

    • 3 key steps in the project closing phase

    • Emphasis on project documentation and continuous learning & adaption

Methodology:

  • The program will be live/synchronous. The resource person will be speaking real-time (not recorded) to the participants discussing topics, facilitating activities for engagement and answering questions for clarity. Each session will have breaks every 45 minutes to 1 hour. 
  • The program will also have an output as proof of learning. 
  • Class size will be limited to a maximum of 20 participants so concerns of each participant can easily be addressed.
